The Gem State, Famous Potatoes, Idaho was named by Invented by George M. Willing, who unsuccessfully sought to become a delegate from what would become the territory of Colorado. Idaho is the only state name that was invented out of thin air!
Idaho is located in the Northern Rocky Mountains, bordering Canada; often considered part of the Pacific Northwest and is bordered by Montana & Wyoming on the east, Utah & Nevada (south), Oregon & Washington (west), and British Columbia, Canada (north).
At 83,574 square miles, Idaho is the 13th largest state. the highest point is Borah Peak in Custer County at 12,662 feet. The lowest point is the Snake River in Nez Perce County at 710 feet.
The highest temperature recorded was 118° while the lowest was -60°
National Parks & Monuments include Craters of the Moon, Hagerman Fossil Beds.
