The Land
"Crossroads of America" was declared the official motto or slogan, but it's more commonly known as the Hoosier State, Indiana was named by Congress when it created the Indiana Territory out of the Northwest Territory in 1800, it means "Land of the Indians".
Indiana is located in the Midwest and is bordered by Michigan on the north, Ohio (east), Kentucky (southeast and south), & Illinois (west).
At 36,185 square miles Indiana is the 38th largest state. The highest elevaton is Franklin Township in Wayne County at 1,257 feet. The lowest elevation is the Ohio River in Posey County at 320 feet.
