Discover one of the New 7 Wonders of the World - The Ancient City of Petra
A UNESCO World Heritage Site it is without a doubt Jordan's most valuable treasure! A whole city carved out of the red sandstone cliffs by the Nabateans thousands of years ago. It was once an important stop along the trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Greece and Rome.
Walk through the narrow canyon entrance - The Siq, with it's high sided rainbow coloured walls, make sure you notice the channels that run the 1 km length once providing the city with a water supply. Round the corner t the end of the Siq and catch your first glimpse of The Treasury - A 60ft high temple. You may recognise this from the film Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
Past the Treasury there is a whole city full of hundreds of other tombs and temples to explore, as well as several Roman influences in the form of an Amphitheater, colonnade streets and the Great Temple with it's statues and columns.
Your guide will accompany you through the city describing the history of the site and the culture of the people that used to live there and show the highlights and not to miss sites on a 4 hour tour.
Visit the archaeological museum to see interesting artifacts that have been found during the excavations projects that are still on going in the area.
