Ourika Valley, at the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, is just 45 minutes south-east of Marrakech. You can take a light trek to one of the smaller waterfalls, or just relax and enjoy a snack at one of the local cafés under the shade of the walnut trees.After a 30-minute drive via the fertile Haouz plains you’ll reach Tnin Ouika center, where you’ll stop to explore the open-air Berber market. Although it’s open every day, Mondays are the liveliest.From here you’ll continue on to Setti Fatma. On the way, stop at a Berber house where you’ll share a cup of mint tea with the locals before reaching the Setti Fatma Berber village.When you arrive in the village you’ll head out on a light trek to the Ouzoud waterfalls above the village. Local guides are available for hire. When you return to the village where you can enjoy lunch at leisure at one of the local cafés by the stream.
After lunch you can choose to relax by the pools or stroll along the network of trails leading to the pools below the falls. If you are feeling adventurous an exciting walk explores underground passages close to the nearby Berber village. If you’re lucky a beautiful rainbow may appear at the bottom of the falls and the resident Barbary apes may make an appearance to drink from the river.
